Mary Swander (Iowa Poet Laureate) Website
In 2009, Governor Chet Culver appointed Mary Swander the Poet Laureate of the State of Iowa. Her most recent work is a book of poetry, The Girls on the Roof (Turning Point/Word Tech, 2009), a Mississippi River flood narrative. This is Mary Swander's website.

Academy of American Poets (poets.org)
The Academy of American Poets was founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry.
Visiting Poet, Iowa State University; Heather Derr-Smith was born in Dallas, Texas but spent most of her childhood in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She earned her MFA in Poetry at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in 1998. Her first book, "Each End of the World" was published by Main Street Rag Press in 2005. Her second book, "The Bride Minaret" was published by University of Akron Press in 2008.
