Mary Swander (Iowa Poet Laureate) Website
In 2009, Governor Chet Culver appointed Mary Swander the Poet Laureate of the State of Iowa. Her most recent work is a book of poetry, The Girls on the Roof (Turning Point/Word Tech, 2009), a Mississippi River flood narrative. This is Mary Swander's website.

Iowa Literary Community

Iowa Poetry Association

Heather Derr-Smith
Visiting Poet, Iowa State University; Heather Derr-Smith was born in Dallas, Texas but spent most of her childhood in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She earned her MFA in Poetry at the Iowa Writers' Workshop in 1998. Her first book, "Each End of the World" was published by Main Street Rag Press in 2005. Her second book, "The Bride Minaret" was published by University of Akron Press in 2008.
